Aggressive Dog Training
in Austin, TX

Traction Dog Training Club provides private aggression training and behavior modification in Austin for dogs that growl, lunge, snap, bite, guard resources, or react toward people and other dogs. Dogs with a bite history are welcome.

Start with a free phone consultation. We discuss your goals, behavior history, and the approach that fits your situation, then typically arrange an in-home evaluation before confirming your program.

Tailored Strategies for Aggressive Dogs

Before your program begins, you receive a written goals sheet outlining your dog’s individualized training goals. We focus on the behaviors that affect your everyday life and the skills you want to use, rather than putting every dog through the same curriculum.

Training can address reactions on walks, aggression toward people or dogs, resource guarding, behavior around guests, fence fighting, and redirected aggression. Your dog’s history and evaluation guide the training plan and program recommendation.

Owner Coaching and Continued Training

Training includes coaching you to understand your dog, handle them confidently, and maintain progress in daily life. Our Austin team brings complementary experience in behavior modification, working dogs, service dogs, and competitive dog sports.

KT Tong: Starmark-certified Professional Dog Trainer and Behavior Specialist. Experience includes more than 400 reactivity cases, human and dog aggression, and resource guarding.

Mia Alfonso: AKC CGC and Temperament Test evaluator and service dog trainer. Specialties include reactive dogs, engagement, muzzle conditioning, and dog/cat relationships.

Mara Soo: PAVLOV-certified trainer, AKC CGC evaluator, and titled PSA handler. Experience includes working breeds, dog aggression, leash reactivity, and redirected aggression.

Dalton Krisik: Protection dog trainer and decoy for Full Grip Society, with experience in PSA and French Ring.

Hands-on experience with biting behavior. Mara and Dalton love getting into the bite suit for protection training. Working directly as the person in the suit gives them practical handling skills and an up-close understanding of biting behavior, motivation, and control that informs their work with aggression.

Client experiences with aggression and reactivity

Bean: leash reactivity and behavior around guests.

“After three weeks of training, we’ve now had guests over (multiple times!), have taken her to coffee shops, and have walked her on busy hiking trails. Our quality of life has improved, and so has Bean’s!”

Christian Evans, excerpt from a client review.

Benji and Bruin: barking at other dogs and pulling on walks.

“She gave us some great tips and we are now able to go on relaxing walks without any issues!”

Brenda Salas, excerpt from a client review of training with Mia.

Yes. We welcome dogs that have bitten people, their owners, or other animals. These are cases we are passionate about helping. Our team’s experience includes competitive protection dogs and working police K9s, which informs our understanding of bite behavior, motivation, and control. Start with a free phone consultation and tell us about the incidents and circumstances so we can discuss your dog’s needs.

Your goals and expected progress are individualized. Before your program begins, we provide a written goals sheet explaining what we will work toward for your dog. We customize the program around the behaviors and practical goals that matter to you, rather than following a uniform curriculum or spending your time on skills you will not use. Your consultation and evaluation help us set clear expectations.

Study Abroad can suit families, off-leash goals, reactivity, go-anywhere dogs, and situations where frustration has built up between dog and owner. Homeschool is especially useful for behaviors specific to home, such as guest manners or fence fighting with a neighbor’s dog, as well as basic obedience. Tutoring suits puppies, basic obedience, and very involved owners who want to learn the entire teaching process, with trainer-led sessions so the dog and owner do not have to learn everything simultaneously. We recommend a program after discussing and evaluating your situation.

During your free phone consultation, we discuss your goals, possible causes of the behavior, how we would approach your particular situation, and the recommended program. We typically begin with an in-home evaluation, where a trainer assesses your dog’s current behavior, personality and learning style, and your relationship together before confirming the program recommendation.

Absolutely. We welcome owners who have tried other programs without getting the results they need, including owners coming from positive-reinforcement-only training. Tell us what you tried, what changed, and what concerns remain. If you are exploring balanced training, we often recommend starting with private lessons so you can participate directly, understand each step, and discuss anything you are uncomfortable with. Our goal is clear, fair communication and training you and your dog can enjoy. Schedule a free phone consultation to talk through your questions.

Our Austin team offers private training through our North/Central and South Austin service areas. In-home coverage depends on your address and commute time. See locations and service areas or ask about your address during your consultation.

The cost depends on the recommended program and training needs. Our pricing page lists program prices and payment options. A free phone consultation helps you choose the appropriate level of support.
